Evapotranspiration Evapotranspiration, or ET, is a calculated value that uses weather conditions to estimate the amount of water lost from the soil through evaporation due to weather and due to the transpiration of water by plants.The base ET calculation uses wind speed, temperature, solar irradiance, relative humidity, and barometric pressure and is calculated for "cropped" grass" which is essentially a well-water lawn that completely shades the ground surface.
