Fuel Availablilty Factor Part of a modification to the Fosberg Fire Weather Index Fuel Availablilty Factor is included in a modification to the Fosberg Fire Weather Index proposed by Scott L.Goodrick, in 2002. It includes the effect of precipitation. The Keetch-Byram Drought Index is used to calculate a 'fuel availability factor' that changes the response of the Fosberg Fire Weather Index . Comparisons between the original and modified indices have been made using historical fire data from the Florida Division of Forestry. The addition of the fuel availability factor seems to increase the useability of the fire weather index as it offers an improved relationship between the index and area burned.
