Modified Fosberg Fire Weather Index  

with Fuel Availability Factor

Fuel Availablilty Factor is included in this  modification to the Fosberg Fire Weather Index proposed by Scott L.Goodrick, in 2002.

The Fuel Availability factor includes the effect of precipitation via inclusion of the Keetch-Byram Drought Index which changes the response of the Fosberg Fire Weather Index . Comparisons between the original and modified indices have been made using historical fire data from the Florida Division of Forestry. The addition of the fuel availability factor seems to increase  the useability of the fire weather index as it offers an improved relationship between the index and area burned.
